The Okanagan Science and Technology Council is leading a green building mission to China and South Korea on behalf of the government of British Columbia and the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation. Buildings emit more than 30% of the world’s greenhouse gases and this seminar will discuss how sustainable design can efficiently and economically reduce pollution, energy costs, waste and water consumption. British Columbia is at the forefront of environmental leadership in Canada, setting aggressive targets for zero net greenhouse gas emissions, new investments in green innovation, and ambitious energy conservation and eco-efficiency targets. Green buildings are an important part of British Columbia’s strategy.
The Canada-British Columbia Green Building Mission provides an opportunity to bring our top experts in green buildings to China and South Korea to develop partnerships in sustainable design and share Canadian expertise in this critical area. The mission also provides an opportunity to promote the Okanagan, its products and its lifestyle.
The delegation includes Kevin Hydes, Chair of the World Green Building Council; Vivian Manasc, Principal, Manasc Isaac Architects: David Rousseau, Archemy Consulting Ltd.; Roger Bayley, Director, Merrick Architects; and Douglas MacLeod, the Executive Director of the Okanagan Science and Technology Council. MacLeod will use the mission to promote the work of local green architects such as Jim Meiklejohn, green developers such as the GGroup and the makers of sustainable products such as Pure Lignan and Quantum Windpower.
The Canada-British Columbia Green Building team will touch down in Seoul on May 19 and 20th, 2008 and in Beijing on May 22 and 23rd to coincide with Premier Gordon Campbell’s visit to both cities and the opening of the BC Canada Pavilion in Beijing.
The program will consist of keynote presentations, panel discussions and opportunities for one on one meetings between Canadian practitioners, researchers and industry leaders and their Chinese and Korean counterparts. It is generously supported by British Columbia Economic Development and Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Canada’s national housing agency and is being organized by the Canadian Design Research Network (CDRN) and the Okanagan Science and Technology Corporation.
